Zelenskyy announces increase in arms supplies from US

Spread the news

The United States is increasing the supply of military aid to Ukraine. This helps to level the playing field in the war with Russia, according to the evening address of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the head of state, today he received reports from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

“Front. Supply. It is very important that the United States is now increasing supplies. This is necessary to level the playing field. I am grateful to our partners. And the pace of supply should be such that it slows down the pace of Russian assaults,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

He clarified that Ukraine needs strong positions for diplomacy. And every unit and brigade that ensures this brings the possibility of sustainable peace closer.

The Head of State thanked the 90th, 80th, 82nd separate air assault brigades and the 68th separate hunting brigade for their resilience and courage in this week’s battles. He also mentioned the 225th and 425th separate assault battalions.

“I would also like to recognize all our soldiers who are carrying out long-range strikes on the territory of Russia. And we have the right, necessary results in destroying the enemy’s military infrastructure, and only that: Ukraine is defending itself against aggression, and our strikes are aimed exclusively at military targets,” the President added.

He thanked the Armed Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, and foreign intelligence for their accuracy.

Help from the United States

Before the inauguration of Donald Trump, the administration of US President Joe Biden increased military aid to Ukraine.

Over the past month, Washington has already announced several new military aid packages.

Also on December 20, Reuters wrote that the United States may announce a military aid package for Ukraine in the coming days, which will include weapons worth $1.2 billion. In particular, it will include missiles for air defense and artillery shells.

The President thanked Serbia for its financial and humanitarian support. Zelenskyy and Vučić also coordinated efforts on a common path to the EU.

The Serbian President congratulated the Ukrainian people on the New Year holidays and expressed hope for a quick end to the war.

“Earlier this week, I accepted credentials from the new Ambassador of Serbia. I believe that the resumption of the full-fledged work of the diplomatic mission headed by the Ambassador will contribute to the development of our cooperation,” Zelenskyy added.

Relations between Serbia and Ukraine

In May of this year, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that Serbia had agreed to improve relations with Ukraine and hold an economic forum.

Also in October, it was reported that Serbia would provide Ukraine with equipment worth more than €8 million. The aid includes generators and transformers.

Kazakhstan plane crash: Expert explains how Russians may have downed aircraft

Spread the news

from RBC-Ukraine.

Russians may have struck the Embraer 190 aircraft of AZAL Airlines, which crashed in Kazakhstan, using a Pantsir air defense system. These missile and artillery systems were recently deployed to Chechnya, said aviation expert Kostiantyn Kryvolap in a comment to RBC-Ukraine’s YouTube channel.

“Well, it definitely wasn’t birds. I noticed two different sizes (of impact holes – ed.). Most likely, these are missiles from the Pantsir system. However, the Pantsir is a missile and artillery system, capable of striking with both. It seems to me that it struck with both types of weapons in this case,” the expert stated.

He recalled that just days before the plane crash, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, requested the Pantsir air defense system from Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Kryvolap, these systems were stationed near the airfield in Grozny, from where the plane was downed.

The expert noted that the Pantsir system also has an automatic target engagement mode. While the operator can adjust it, this requires practice to ensure smooth coordination.

“There is also an automatic mode designed for situations where multiple targets are approaching from different directions. The operator can intervene to prioritize the most significant target. Essentially, yes, (the system decides what to engage on its own – ed.), but the operator can override it. However, proper training is needed to establish effective coordination between the machine and the operator. In this case, there wasn’t enough time for such training. Whatever was pressed, was pressed; whatever was hit, was hit,” Kryvolap explained.

Airplane crash in Kazakhstan

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane of AZAL Airlines crashed in Kazakhstan. There were 67 people on board. According to the latest information, 38 people died in the crash.

The Azerbaijani airplane was flying from Baku to Grozny. It is reported that in Grozny, where drones had been shot down before, the plane was shot down, so it was unable to land. As a result, the Embraer 190 crashed near the city of Aktau.

Initially, it was claimed that the plane crashed because of a collision with a flock of birds. However, the remains of the plane were shown online, with traces of anti-aircraft missile debris on the body.

According to Euronews, Azerbaijan has confirmed that the plane crash was caused by a Russian missile.

Investigation into Deadly Azerbaijan Plane Crash Begins. Here’s What We Know So Far

Spread the news

plane crash in Kazakhstan.

Thursday is an official day of mourning in Azerbaijan as an investigation is underway to determine what caused an airplane carrying 67 passengers to crash on Christmas Day in Kazakhstan, killing 38 and leaving at least 29 survivors.

[time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”]

Video posted by CNN shows the plane crash-landing, exploding into a fireball and plumes of black smoke.

Here’s what to know about the devastating accident and the latest on the possible causes.

The victims

Passengers on the Azerbaijan Airlines’ Embraer operated flight 190 included 37 Azerbaijani nationals, 16 Russians, six Kazakh citizens and three Kyrgyz nationals, according to the New York Times. The flight was heading from Azerbaijani capital Baku to the Russian city of Grozny when the crash occurred. The plane crashed while trying to make an emergency landing at the Aktau airport in Kazakhstan.

Among the 29 survivors were two children.

Footage of the rubble published by the Russian state news outlet Ria Novosti shows some passengers lying on the ground and others being able to walk away from the debris.

Some mobile phone footage shows passengers pulling each other out of the wreckage.

The cause of the crash

The exact cause of the crash was not immediately known.

Russia’s aviation authority initially theorized that a collision with a flock of birds could have played a part in the crash. There were also other reports that the plane may have encountered significant fog, and that the flight had changed course midway due to worsening weather conditions but it’s still unclear if this was a major factor in the crash, according to the AP.

“The information provided to me is that the plane changed its course between Baku and Grozny due to worsening weather conditions and headed to Aktau airport, where it crashed upon landing,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Reuters reported that investigators are looking into whether the plane was shot down accidentally by Russian air defense systems, based on interviews with four unnamed sources with knowledge of the preliminary findings of Azerbaijan’s investigation into the crash. Nearly three years into the Russia-Ukraine war, Russian air defense systems are regularly triggered by Ukrainian military drones aiming for targets in southern Russia. Russian authorities are not confirming that, but Russian President Vladimir Putin dispatched emergency resources to the crash site.

A spokesman for Putin, Dmitry Peskov, said Thursday that “it would be incorrect to make any hypotheses before the investigation comes to conclusions,” adding that “no one should do it.”

Azerbaijan suspended flights between Baku and Grozney until investigators can determine the official cause of the crash.
