Israeli military chief of staff resigns

Israel’s army chief Herzi Halevi resigned on Monday over his responsibility for the failure of the operation during the Palestinian Hamas group’s October 7, 2023 attack, the Times of Israel reported.

In his resignation letter, Halevy said he was leaving in recognition of his responsibility for the military’s failure on October 7, 2023.

“In recognition of my responsibility for the IDF’s failure on October 7, and at a time when the IDF has made outstanding achievements and restored Israel’s deterrence capability and power, I am requesting that my term of office end on March 6, 2025. This decision was made long ago.

Now that the IDF is gaining the upper hand in all theaters of operations and that another hostage return agreement has been concluded, the time has come,” Halevy’s statement said.
