Protestors took to the office of Representative Hakeem Jeffries on Thursday afternoon to call on the congressman to be more aggressive to  resist the Trump administration.

On Feb. 20, 75 protesters representing Food and Water Watch, New York Communities for Change, Indivisible Brooklyn, and Extinction Rebellion rallied in front of the congressman’s office at 55 Hanson St., saying that Jeffries must take the administration as a threat and not be weak toward them.

“Jeffries [needs] to take a long hard look at their stands on immigration and ICE as well as DEI protocols,” said organizer Eric Weltz.

The group also called for the removal of Mayor Eric Adams, who met with Judge Ho at federal court on Feb. 19. The judge is expected to make a decision regarding the matter in a few weeks.

The protesters were heard yelling, “Elected officials are not standing up to the MAGA administration.” The groups maintain that they will unify until someone in government pushes back against the Trump administration.

“Yes, two really key things I can lift a laundry list of things that Adams is doing wrong, that a key Jeffreys is doing wrong, that the MAGA administration is doing wrong, but New York communities for change,” said Shinenia Rogovin of Food and Water Watch. “Now for us, we are super concerned whether you’re documented, whether you’re undocumented. We are super concerned with what we’re seeing in the immigration policy. ICE is coming into our city, separating families, harassing residents.”
