‘Ttactic of thousand cuts’: Intelligence recalled how Russia burned in 2024

The invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine has led to a sharp increase in the number of fires on the territory of the aggressor state. The Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine (GUR) reminded how this unfolded in Russia this year, according to the GUR Telegram channel.

In the intelligence report, it was noted that after the full-scale Russian invasion, “strange” fires were recorded this year both in Moscow and in the Altai Krai and Krasnoyarsk.

“The wide geography of incidents in Russia in 2024 — ranging from Moscow and Saint Petersburg to Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, and the Altai Krai — indicates a tactic of ‘thousands of cuts’ that slows down the Russian war machine, forcing Moscow’s leaders to spend resources addressing these issues. Yet the fire persists — the resistance movement against the Putin regime continues to operate,” the GUR captioned the video.

Explosions in Russia

On the night of December 25, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the command post of the 810th Separate Marine Brigade in Lgov, Kursk region.

On December 24, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacked the Millerovo airbase in Rostov region. According to media reports, the targets may have been Su-25 attack aircraft.

Also, on the night of November 10, there were explosions in the Russian city of Bryansk. Locals reported hearing blasts, and the Russians claimed that their air defense systems had allegedly shot down drones. Following the explosions in Bryansk, a fire broke out.
